Master of Education (Gifted Education) from Nanyang Technological University, with multiple Licentiate and Associate flute performance and teaching diplomas.
Daniel has studied, performed, and taught flute internationally, with a teaching career in New York City and Singapore dating back to 1989.
Daniel started playing the flute at the age of six, first with his school band and later with Julius Baker of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Samuel Baron of the New York Woodwind Quintet, and Andrew Lolya of the New York Ballet Orchestra.
Upon returning to Singapore, Daniel played for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for two concerts and was with the Singapore Wind Symphony (SWS) from 1993–2005. With SWS, he performed in the Netherlands, Norway, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Australia. He appeared as a guest player with the Asian Youth Orchestra in 1999 and represented Singapore in the World Music Competition in 1993 and 2001, winning First Prize with Distinction.
Daniel has taught flute and music theory in music schools in New York City and Singapore since 1989. His teaching experience includes helping underachieving students become high scorers in music theory. One of his flute students later graduated with a PhD from New York University, while two students in New York achieved near-perfect scores in the Grade 5 Flute Practical Examination after six months with him.
Besides wind music, Daniel enjoys orchestral works, chamber ensemble, and 20th-century music, and continually seeks out new compositions to perform.
Daniel holds a Master of Education (Gifted Education) from Nanyang Technological University. He also holds Licentiate Flute Performance Diplomas (LRSM, LTCL, L.Mus.A), a Licentiate Flute Teaching Diploma (LTCL), and an Associate Flute Performance Diploma (A.Mus.A) from the Australian Music Examination Board.
